So I have a few hours played on the closed alpha now and avoiding you tube reviews have tried here to give my very average gamer impressions..
Aside from looking most similar to BF1, which is natural as it is following it on the same engine, It actually plays very different, Improvements made include a better suppression mechanic, more old school screen blurring but your bullets go where the cross-hair is sited, the grenade spam has effectively been ended, all ammo is very scarce in fact, use it wisely and pick up wherever you can! Also the most annoying recent thing on BF1 has gone, death from above all the bloody time, those OP bombers have gone, ok there is strafing from planes and a few placed bombs from stukas and the odd V rocket but I can live with that.
It's alpha, it's buggy, they all are at this stage but Dice often move the development pace very quickly from this stage to optimise the games and I am quite confident things will improve by launch. On a recent I7 with a 1080 on medium settings I am playing around 80-100 fps, I have the mouse set to raw input but now and then it seems a bit flakey and not quite responsive enough. Player movement is pretty good, hardly getting stuck on random objects and diving in all directions is handy. There is no apparent random bullet deviation but there is heavy recoil on a lot of automatic weapons, leading a shot on a moving target and bullet drop are very real, gunplay overall is exactly right from my perspective. I'm not sure how the assist on the consoles will work but I hope it will leave it more skill based like on the PC. Remember BF3? well they imported the Sun back into this game too Classes, well I tried all and rather than medic and sniper in BF1 I find assault and medic suit me more in this game, with the gun accuracy the assault rifle is effective close up and tapping at long distance, rpg's and dynamite are handy to with fortifications and vehicles all over. Medic because i often times join a squad without one and the much faster revive as a medic is a great squad boost with an smg option for close up and a scoped rifle for distance they play quite a good role. Sniper seems ok but one gun with a huge magnification on the site made it not aggressive enough for me but that could change, managing the bullet drop was fun and once gleamed headshots for days! The heavy machine gun/engineer type guy is not my style at all, though I must try the building fortifications, as a lot were (even in a close firefight!) the LMG even on a bipod kicks like a mule although I do feel you can rack up points just chucking ammo out as it is scarce as hens teeth! there is no fancy gun choices and no gun customisation in this build and I have to say surprisingly I like it!
I feel this is a proper battlefield game with the two ingredients BF fans like, good gunplay and squadplay, I have not had the chance to play in a squad of friends communicating, but I did come up against a few and they dominated, one conquest game I was squad leader and the other followed orders and we did amazingly well .... Please Dice, don't change too much just spend the effort optimising this and you'll have a great game.
